Telemedicine

Expert orthopaedic care from your home, office — or virtually anywhere

Patient Information — click to explore:

Telemedicine is the remote delivery of real-time healthcare services using information and telecommunications technology. It allows you to receive medical care at home, at the office or virtually anywhere — without needing to travel to a hospital or clinic.

A telemedicine consultation with Dr Anand Jadhav is a live audio-visual appointment. You will need a reasonably good internet connection and a smartphone, tablet or desktop computer with a working camera and microphone.

Telemedicine is suitable for new consultations, follow-ups and second opinions. It is not appropriate for emergencies — in a health emergency, please contact your nearest hospital or local emergency services.

How Telemedicine Services Are Used

Consultations can be taken on a smartphone, tablet or desktop computer with a camera. Specialised software or video-calling apps are used to enable remote audio-visual communication. With some software you will need access to your email account so you can follow the link that is shared with you to start the consultation.

The general steps involved in a typical telemedicine consultation are:

  • Visit your orthopaedic doctor’s website
  • Click on the telemedicine tab
  • Fill in your basic details as required
  • Choose a convenient time slot
  • Make your payment online
  • Follow the instructions to start the consultation at the pre-fixed time

Alternatively, you can call the doctor’s office and pre-book a mutually convenient time slot for your telemedicine consultation.

What Happens During a Telemedicine Appointment

A telemedicine consultation involves real-time audio-visual communication between you and Dr Anand Jadhav. Please set up your device so that Dr Jadhav can clearly see you and all your movements without any hindrance.

Dr Jadhav will take a detailed history of your orthopaedic problem and your general health. He will ask you to point out painful or troublesome areas, and then to perform some movements so he can assess your joint mobility and any limitations.

Based on your history and the clinical findings seen on camera, Dr Jadhav will arrive at a provisional diagnosis. He will explain whether any tests are needed to confirm it — for example X-rays, an MRI scan or blood tests. If you have already had tests done, the reports and images can be shared by email or WhatsApp, or displayed live on camera.

After reviewing all investigations, Dr Jadhav will explain the treatment options available and help you choose the one most suitable for you. Appropriate medication, physiotherapy and lifestyle changes are advised, along with any additional investigations required. You will be asked to follow your treatment plan and undergo periodic monitoring, with any changes advised at follow-up telemedicine consultations.

If your condition is serious or you need surgery, you will be advised to visit Dr Jadhav urgently at a pre-selected hospital. Patients based outside Pune may be advised to attend their nearest specialised hospital and see a local orthopaedic specialist.

The Role of Telemedicine During a Pandemic

Telemedicine proved to be a necessary and valuable tool during the Covid-19 pandemic. With people in self-quarantine or facing extensive geographical lockdowns, access to medical care and facilities became very difficult.

Telemedicine acted as a first line of defence — helping to prevent self-medication, reducing overcrowding at hospitals and clinics, and allowing critical health issues to be addressed while avoiding person-to-person contact and exposure to highly contagious disease.
